Baked Apples

Posted on

I am proud to say that this is my first recipe COMPLETELY from SCRATCH!

I really wanted to make some dessert tonight so I decided to make baked apples! I looked in my refrigerator and pantry for possible ingredients and just went with the flow to come up with a baked apple recipe.

I used Honey Crisp apples because they were what I had on hand but I am sure this would work for Gala and Fuji apples as well!

Baked Apples

2 honey crisp apples
1/4 teaspoon lemon zest
1 tablespoon lemon juice (about 1/2 a small lemon)
1/2 teaspoon orange zest
2 tablespoons orange juice (about 1 small orange)
2 tablespoons apple juice
1/2 cup oats
1 tablespoon butter, cut into tiny cubes
pinch of salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 cup sugar
1/8 brown sugar
apple juice

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.

Hallow out the apples making sure you remove all of the core. A melon baller works great! Keep the inside of the apple except the core and seeds in a medium bowl.

Add lemon zest, lemon juice, orange zest, orange juice, 2 tablespoons apple juice, oats, butter, salt, cinnamon, sugar and brown sugar to the apples and toss until everything is mixed together.

Place the apples in an oven safe dish and fill the apples with the filling. Pour more apple juice in the dish so it is about 1/4 inch high.

Bake for 45 minutes.
